Delivering a greater level of capacity than IBM’s DS8300, the IBM System Storage DS8700 is available in Models 941 and 94E. Using an optional expansion unit, 94E, the DS8700 can scale as follows:
With one Model 94E expansion unit, Model 941 (4-way) supports up to 384 disk drives, for a maximum capacity of up to 384 TB, and up to 32 Fibre Channel/FICON adapters.
With two Model 94E expansion units, Model 941 (4-way) supports up to 640 disk drives, for a maximum capacity of up to 640 TB, and up to 32 Fibre Channel/FICON adapters
With three Model 94E expansion units, Model 941 (4-way) supports up to 896 disk drives, for a maximum capacity of up to 896 TB, and up to 32 Fibre Channel/FICON adapters.
With four Model 94E expansion units, Model 941 (4-way) supports up to 1,024 disk drives, for a maximum capacity of up to 1,024 TB, and up to 32 Fibre Channel/FICON adapters.
