Further Detail on the IBM Power 520 Series:

  • IBM uses the Power 520 MTM value of 8203-E4A to characterize the integrated POWER6 520 configuration that can be ordered to run AIX, IBM i, or Linux operating systems (beginning in October 2008).  The system may be ordered to either run all resources under one operating system or to run multiple operating systems, each in its own partition.
  • The 8203-E4A can be configured as a 1-core, 2-core, or 4-core configuration, while the 9407-M15 may be configured as a 1-core configuration, and the 9408-M25 can be configured as a 2-core configuration.
  • Single core 8203-E4A and 9407-M15 configurations present some I/O restrictions (i.e. not supporting any RIO-2 or 12X I/O loops.)
  • The Power 520 system supports single-or dual-core POWER6 modules on a single- or dual-chip planar.
  • Each POWER6 2 core module has 8 MB of L2 cache (4 MB per core).
  • System DDR2 SDRAM memory capacity starts at 1 GB: up to 16 GB (1-core configuration), up to 32 GB (2-core configuration) and up to 64 GB (4-core configuration. 64 GB of memory is achieved using eight DDR2 memory DIMM slots.
  • 5 (five) PCI slots (three PCIe 8x and two PCI-X 64-bit (Double Data Rate) DDR 2.0)
  • 6 (six) 3.5 inch internal SAS disk bays.
