The NPE-300 is the highest-performance processor in the family of network processing engines for the Cisco 7200 series. The NPE-300 performs at approximately 300, 000 packets per second (pps) in Cisco express forwarding (CEF) switching, a 50 percent increase over the NPE-200 processor's performance. The NPE-300 uses a high-performance 263-MHz RM7000 RISC processor and can support up to 256 MB of memory, providing superior performance for both enterprise and service provider applications that require processor-intensive services. Network layer services such as traffic management, security, and QoS benefit significantly from the high performance of the NPE-300.
