For small businesses looking to consolidate IT services on a single hardware platform, there’s no better fit choice than the Dell PowerEdge m520. The PowerEdge m520 is an affordable blade server that does not slack in the performance department and comes appointed with an extensive list of features and technology starting with its unique PCIe shared architecture and unique storage characteristics.

The Dell PowerEdge m520 can be had in two variations – a 5U rack chassis and on a pedestal with wheels, and is compatible with up to four hot-plug power nodes.

The chassis of the Dell PowerEdge m520 is equipped with a passive mid plane that connects these nodes to management, storage, power and networking services. Each node is further outfitted with two SFF drives and a PERC H310 RAID controller, but the main storage is provisioned from the parallel drive bays.

The Dell PowerEdge m520 can be ordered with either 25 SFF drive bays or 12 LFF drive bays, which are controlled by the shared PERC8 (SPERC8) located on the planar. Beneath the chassis of the web interface, the Dell PowerEdge m520 allows you to selects drives and create virtual disks that can each be configured further with their own RAID type. These virtual disks are then matched with an adapter that is then assigned to a node slot.
