The Cisco 3945 Integrated Services Routers have a modular architecture which is suitable for branch office applications of the present with adequate design flexibility for future development. They offer Time Division Multiplexing (TDM), allow bandwidth requirement increases and have a fully integrated power distribution to the various modules. They support both 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) as well as Cisco Enhanced PoE. Various types of module slots, LAN and WAN connectivity options, and the Services Performance Engine (SPE) which allow you to increase router performance through upgradable motherboards all contribute to the modular structure of these routers. The high-performing multicore processors permit you to run multiple concurrent services while supporting the additional demands of many high-speed WAN connections. The encryption hardware of the 3900 series is much superior to that of previous generations. The multi gigabit fabric (MGF) introduced by this series offers better communication and services integration between modules and reduces router processor overhead. The new mini-B Universal Serial Bus (USB) based console port allows management connectivity even when traditional serial ports are unavailable. The 3900 series routers are specially designed for NEBS (Network Equipment Building Systems) which allow flexible deployments.
